Playing around with logo-type ideas in vector art. This is a rather esoteric-hindu-humanist-ophidian-occult type one... I have a couple of others but they uploaded strangely (the transparency became black), this one needs to be clicked on to really be seen, as it appears black in the thumbnail also. This was inspired by the rampant adoration of one of my friends, Justin, by two other of my friends, Erik and Tamara/Travis. I took a photo of the sea cliffs outside (northshore Maui) to use for the background, at sunset. And of course, Misht Soloi obligatorily perches in repose and celebration of the twin souls reveling in their mutual veneration of... well, I guess it's not really about that, Erik seems preoccupied with his noni fruits, and Tamara's eyes hold something of a glassy look, as if Justin is only the shoddy cardboard cutout of that which s/he is truly chasing. And Justin, of course, with his modest ideals of peacefulness, is doing his best to lose himself in the protective cloud of tobacco. Native Americans used it for this too, you know. ... It was hilarious and magical when I drew it, anyway. But this is the last, I hope, that I shall have to do with this nonsense! Misht Soloi, colored in a stylized sort of way. It's hard to see the lines and all the spirals on her with the way I colored her, but I think it came out kind of cool anyway... Artwork © 2009 Lynne |

I'm drawing dark elves again!!!! I'm fascinated lately with depths and black widow style sexual encounters and sorcery and power and, of course, dark elves. So, this is about all of that. She has slain her victim and taken his life force. Then, like a moth to a flame, she is drawn to something that nests its power deep in the earth... not that I'm sure what it is. Maybe a Dragon egg. Most things are Dragon eggs with me.
Dark things are not unseen in my gallery, but this is a little more obviously an aggressive playing out of my more repressed side.
It's watercolor, but I touched it up quite a lot on the computer to add to the dark and dramatic effect of it. A lot of the designs in this are inspired by Pan's Labyrinth. Artwork © 2009 Lynne

It's been a while since I've actually done some FAN ART and the thought horrified me for a little while. But then, I thought, it's been a real long time since I've met a movie and characters I DON'T feel jaded by. I mean, Pan's Labyrinth is something I actually got EXCITED about...
So I thought hey, why not, and sketched this. It's painted with watercolors, and is the ent-style faun from Pan's Labyrinth, one of the best movies I've ever seen, and it's by a director/producer who just HAPPENS to have the same birthday as me... o_O October 9th.
Perhaps that is one reason why I pretty much went nuts over the designs in the film, especially that of the faun, who has got to be one of the most beautiful creatures I've seen in a while. With a good dose of ancient power and some Elam-esque ambivalence. This movie resonated a lot with me because I identify very strongly with the idea of not belonging in these world and seeking my Elder to initiate me into all those Magical Worlds. Twas that reality of my psyche that got me into things with Elam... the same thing makes me like this movie a whole lot. Besides that, one of it's major themes is one of the favorites in my life--choice.
Enough ramble. Enjoy painting. Artwork © 2009 Lynne Additional Credits: Pan's Labyrinth by Guillermo del Toro Referenced Source: Pan's Labyrinth

This is my most brilliant conception that I am attempting to do justice to. At least, it was the picture in my sketchbook that I felt most drawn to doing something with. It is inked, and colored with watercolors. Originally it was drawn as an expression of my attempt to understand something that was male--namely, the association between women or femininity, and death. Whether this is expressed in aggression towards women subtle, direct, or passive, or whether it is consciously recognized as the source of life that brings everything back into her cyclic depths, as the female has the magic of creating, nurturing, and sustaining new life, and every male is born of this and remembers somewhere the infantile terror of rejection by mother. Maybe this is also a result of my involvement with a man who consistently employs vampiristic and controlling patterns, in some convoluted way of keeping me from leaving or rejecting him(?), combined with unpredictable rejections and 'preemptive strikes'... he accused me of cursing him, sometimes seemed to hate and view as ultimate threat my very existence, and was desperate to deny my sexuality. I did not feel that I could even exercise my own empowerment without sparking an Inquisition. He did all this with a game of superiority... very complex and subtle and manipulative. A man who hates being a man and hates women more for the power they have over his masculinity. This art was an expression of him... as the way it will be in the end, the god that dies and is reborn every year at the behest of the feminine power of creation, and is asked to sacrifice his own blood to achieve her magic, and if there is fear in his eyes, it is only natural... Of course he and every other male must understand that maleness is never the SUM TOTAL of your being, your soul, your ultimate potential. Never. Your biological and psychological expression in this lifetime, sure, and it is JUST as important as femaleness. We are here as male and female to heal the distortions, the war between them. I started this almost a year ago, when I was staying at Yao Chi's house before flying to Maui. Twas inspired of course by the ever-charming rainbow floofinator and specifically by a camoflauge-patterned hat he wore in a real-life stroll to keep the sun off his head. This contrast struck me as ironic and I thus illustrated it. I finished it maybe a month ago now and sent it off to him, so now I shall put up the electronic version, because it IS very cute. Another quick watercolor piece. This one is part of an exploration I was making of the new designs for Misht Soloi that have been occuring to me lately. A few times I dressed her in elaborate jewelry, which was beautiful but not inherent to her, and artistically I wished instead to experiment with various styles and color usage to give myself a more accurate picture of her energy. She is not always just solid black; perhaps she never was, and I'm only just figuring out now how to begin expressing this? Artwork © 2009 Lynne

All done in the GIMP on my computer last night... some vague expression of my longings, as always.
It's Misht Soloi, who I get more and more out of touch with, until she says she can't live within me--not within the fear-based prison I've made of myself. Then what do I do? Leave the Earth? I do not know... Artwork © 2009 Lynne |

This is my Water Dragon and his game. I drew this back in November after running away from Elam's. Since, in November, I wrote a novel that freed me from the compulsion to return, but even lacking that I am as yet confused because every other path I can possibly take right now is equally nauseating except the one frustratingly unopen to me.
All the chaotic energy in the background is intentional... such is life, attempting to resist God's attempts to utterly destroy me (first Spokane, now this?).

Another piece of the 'story line' from the previous picture... The yang and yin of my psychological depths, Rossi and Misht Soloi. The magnetism they hold for each other is matched and overpowered only by the Love of their common Source generated in their eventual union. I don't know why Misht has blood furies, but I find them compellingly attractive in her company. I'm not entirely sure what this is of. Not too long ago I had a story idea I was playing around with involving Rossi and Misht Soloi, and this is based on that. The theme had something to do with two beings of far differing energy (which Rossi and Misht certainly are), their attraction to and hatred of each other, and ultimately the role that their partnership would play in the world.
