At last... A return to fan art! Its easy to forget how fun that can be....

X-23, the fourteen year ex-HYDRA opperative, on a roof. Background is scratchy, but I really don't care much. I'm just proud of how X's costume came out. Basically, she wears an all black latex jumpsuit with a grey t-shirt undernieth it. I was really worried that all the black would run together. But, that was not the case, and all turned out well!

An elf and her troll. Doesn't the elf look happy?

Done in ink and colored pencils. Any resemblence between the background and the highland prairies of Wyoming are not coincidental in the least.

Iegies, my troll girl, standing under a bridge. Yes! Revel with me in my creativity! Revel!

Yes, the bridge looks pretty skimpy, but there is a reason for that. Two actaully. First, I'm not fully sure I could convincingly draw a real bridge from that angle. Second, I can rationalize having a rickety rope bridge there. Defense. You might notice the brige is running into a battlement-type protrusion. Yes, this valley has been sealed off, to keep those unrully trolls in place. Where the valley walls were not steep enough, stone walls were built. Access to valley is though gates in the wall, which open int rope bridges connecting to stair towers. Nice civilized trolls (like Iegies here. Notice the tag she keeps on her scarf) are allowed to pass through, while more unrully trolls can be kept in place by barricing the stair tower, barring the gate, or simply by cutting the rope bridge and letting them fall to thier well deserved demise.

I got on a coloring kick last week, and finished off four complete drawings. This is the first of the batch. Done in ink, then colored with Prismacolor pencils. The character in the piece was done with much care and detail, with everything being smoothed out with my oh-so-precious colorless blender. The background was done much rougher. Fewer color blends, less detail, etc. Just put down some lead to give a basic feel for the background. Used basically the same technique for all four works. This particualr drawing came out very crisp, but also very light. Barely any color at all on the valley walls. Unexpected, but not disapointing in the least.

A woodland Elf girl. Part of Tekk's band of highwaymen. His right hand girl, more specifically.

I don't know when I came around to capri pants, but apparently I did. They're kind of fun to draw. However, the color scheme for this girl is appalling. Either the red, or blue, or both have to go. It was supposed to be flashy, but it just doesn't work. Nor do the boots, really. Call this girl a design-in-progress. An attempt to do something new that just didn't quite work out.

And, yes, this girl was drawn slightly more 'anime' than most of my character. (No nose.) Its part of how I'm differing Elves from Magnoms (Cro Magnoms. How Humans will be referred to in the world that thus far exists only in my head. Man, I sound like a looser when I write that....).

Okay. I know I posted this before. I must have accidentally deleted it when cleaning out some undesirables from my gallery...

A bit of fanart for an online friend, Bucky. This is Mo, a character of hers. She's a furry, badger-eque alien that Vegeta meets when he get depressed and goes off-world. I drew her because, well, Bucky's a good author, and it had been a long time since I had drawn any furs. The furniture is a bit sketchy, but overall I think she turned out rather well.

Earlier this year I did a picture in ink and mechanical pencil and thought it came out rather well, so I tried it again. But this time, on a more complex composition; with a background. A foreground and a background, actually...

The idea of the piece? A handmaiden, pressed into servitude by Tekk, looking out from her quarters. ...Think an evil Robin Hood with a Swiss Family Robinson get-up... Our unnamed subject of the piece is, of course, none to happy with things. Poor girl. I suppose she could always jump.

Work-in-progress comic I'm working on. Obviously, it still needs to be inked, colored, and lettered.

Okay, basic idea behind the comic; Pietro and Wanda Maximoff (Quicksilver and the Scarlett Witch of X-Men: Evolution) go to a local anime con dressed as InuYasha and Sango, respectively. The subtle joke there is that the character are voiced by the same voice actor as the character they are dressing up as. I know there's no diolog in the comic, but right now I really don't want to write it all out here. The jist of things should be obvious...

The comic is half-inspired by a real-life con experience of an online friend of mine. She dressed as Sango, and pannels 2:1 and 2:2 actually happened to her. A random stranger dressed as Miroku ran up and proposed to her. It got a good laugh from everyone around, I hear. The rest, of course, is purely from my own head....

Tekk, making a show of agonizing over a big decision. ...But, of course, that is what he gets the big bounty for. Deciding who gets killed, where his bandits will set up their ambushes, and what kind of damsel he wants to take captive this week. One often forgets just how crutial these decisions are in maintaining one's dastardly reputation...

I really like the way the coloring came out on this one. So vivid. It looks even better since I'm proud of the details in Tekk's costume and posing. The two fingers brushing under the hair, the knives hanging from the belt, the fabric folds. Even strongman to the side came out nice. Though honestly, I was worried about how his skin tone would come out. Its hard to predict how black will look after you spread it with the colorless blender. You can see how bad the skin could have turned out by looking at his pants. *shudder*

I like this one. And I'm thinking about photoshoping a background into it sometime. The pic just screams for completion.

A pic of a typical fantasy babe standing in a tailor's shop, looking forlorn. I guess there's a story behind it, but I haven't really decided what. And even if I did, all I could do was talk about soem names and events that don't mean anything to you. So: typical fantasy babe mask in hand, looking forlorn, and thinking about saying something meaningful.

I'll admit right up front, I don't like the color. I wanted to give the girl a yellowish tint to her skin, but she turned out looking Simpsons-bright-yellow. I tried to alter it in photoshop, but this was the best I could. And it washed the vividness out of the rest of the background. Regardless, I like how the girl's pose came out, and I'm still proud of the shelf full of boots behind her.

Ah, the glories of long hair... Obscuring the face so that you don't have to draw it from difficult angles!

So, the pic; Tekk, being the coldblooded killer that I've decided he should be. Back elbow to the jaw, (knocking the victim's head up) which will soon be followed by a right hand to the guy's neck. The blond is dead...

Tekk's upper arm is foreshortened improperly, but I like how the inking and coloring came out. The animeish background....not so much.

At last, the colored verision of this pic! Done in prismacolor pencils.

In front, my piker character, with his trademark double bladed pike. And his pair of daggers. 'Bout the only thing I don't like about him is how the chest armor just ends at the belt. I need to find a way around that. I like his pose though, and especially his exxpression.

In back....I dunno, lets just call her some sort of cultish ninja and be done with it. Not much else to say about her.

Remember that scene near the begining of Fellowship of the Ring, where the inkeeper offers Frodo and compnay some 'nice cozy Hobbit-sized rooms?' Wasn't that kind of neat?

Well, (in the world that thus far only exists inside my head and a few scraps of paper) Trolls don't get those kinds of luxuries. If they need someplace to sleep, the only thing available is usually a horse stall... Poor ol' beasts.

Tekk, my archer character, revamped! He used to be a good guy in a nautical setting, but I've sort of scrapped that idea, and recylced the character into an evil Robin Hood archtype. Rob from the rich, and keep for himself. ...And kill anyone he finds along the way.

The basic design is the same as it used to be, with the same face, hair, jerkin, and Zelda-insired gloves. But the color scheme got changed (for the better!) and he's gone form using a generic longbow to a composite recurved bow (shown unstrung). The style of his undershirt also got changed a bit, notably its collar. I still have to work out the sleaves, though...

I can still recall the first sequence of events that led me to the internet art scene. Way back in '97 or so, my family computer first got on-line. For lack of anything else to look up, I searched for sites on the Redwall books. That search led to finding a fanart gallery, with notable work by one Julian Ho. Following a link with his stuff took me to the classic Yerf.com. Though I never posted there, I was a regular brouser, and soon became enamored with the art of Tracy Butler.

Butler's art was....well, amazing. Like most artists, she had a story in her head that she wanted to illustrate, and had a well devoloped cast who littered her gallery. The characters were all various woodland furs, dressed in very accurate (well, at the very least very detailed) feudal garb--with strong celtic influences. I blame her gallery for the feudal-kick I've been on ever since. And I mean that in the nicest, most flattering way...

Back in the day, I had my own little copy-cat cast, but that has long since fallen by the wayside. Still, her influence is still around, and I can still draw furry if I try, so it was time for a tribute.

From left to right; Dustin, Kegan, and Tess. Kegan was the hero of Tracy's story, Dustin the smartass companion, and Tess some bandit that they picked up along the way. ...I really liked the way Dustin and Kegan came out. Tess, not so much. I still have problems with cat faces, and should have spent more time touching up her costume. And if I could do this over, I'd work on the expressions so they were a bit more consistent. Ah well.

*raises glass* To the artists we admired when we were young....

*bites tongue to avoid humming Tom Petty songs*

Colored version of an earlier pic. A pair of gunslingers, from the old west. Originally sketchout out after watching Tomestone, Hang 'Em High, Young Guns and the Mummy (not a western, but had lots of guns) over the course of a week. The guy on the right was sort of inspired by Clint Eastwood's character in Hang 'Em High, with a little bit of Pietro Maximoff thown into the mix. The guy beside him is a--*bites tonge again. Note to self, don't use the terminology from those movies. It is no longer PC* The dark hiared guy was inspired by Chavo from Young Guns, with the overcoat that a couple characters wore in Tomestone.

Hey, I derw a redhead!

New character design. If I ever get the guts (read: skill) to do a full fledged webcomic, this'll probably be one of the characters. Basically, a lightly armed roaving law-girl. ('Cause, hey, it beats being an unarmed barmaid.) The shoulderpads are based off of some armor I saw on a fencer in Rurouni Kenshin, while the sword is loosly based on the Rohan swords from Lord of the Rings. And the background is based off of some meadows I remember in the Rocky Mountains. (Sigh. I miss those mountains...)

Done in ink and prismacolor pencils. Barely touched up in photoshop.
