I began this image months ago, but lacking things to fill the right side of the page with, I abandoned it. I found it again not too long ago and, remembering the Ultimate Form of God (most specifically as represented in the Cartoon History of the Universe volume 2), it becomes clear that GOD, being beyond all of the created world and yet animating it, can thus be accessed and evidenced through any piece of it, and most completely (in the mind's conception anyway) through a conglomerate form. Perhaps that is why I like Dragons so much... but the truth is this is really how I image God. Like how the mind, in a dream, represents things it knows not by piecing together elements of what it does know. What else can we do?
Thus, this picture is the dance of God, popular images of God added in as well as personal images and characters I find numinous. Artwork © 2010 Lewinna Solwing Additional Credits: Faun, gremlin, Krishna, and Jesus characters don't belong to me.

Watercolor touched up a little on the computer. These are the two Dragon characters from the novel I wrote this past November, Lewinna and Sebastian. Lewinna, incidentally, was named such because I wanted to try out the name before deciding on it for myself... plus she is based on Misht and I enjoyed her personality and take on the world. The two Dragons are the last ones on Earth and are seeking a way to follow their kind to a new world. Artwork © 2010 Lewinna Solwing

This is actually a strange piece because it was originally drawn in abject frustration at the state of my relationship with Erik... how trashed I felt and how separated from my true spirit. Later on, though, when I got around to finishing painting it, it became something entirely different for me, a revelation of God.
It looks like the classic 'good and evil' set of figures, only to my mind, it was the figures dressed in white who were evil, the airy-fairy New Age White Brotherhood of the Illuminati kind of evil, and my being there on the ground showed my disturbing reluctance to end my allegiance to this energy. Opposite, then, is Rossi and Misht, the old faith and the Dragon--the Surrender to God and the Cosmic Manifestation in all forms, and the Living Fire, of the Divine. It is Satan who wears the white robes--deceiving with 'white light' approaches that ignore universal laws and do not deal with the power and energy of matter and life force, leaving evil forces free to co-opt them.
I didn't have any idea for a background, so it became again a generic Maui background, which I am, at least, gaining more skill in. Maui is a powerful place, it was always a spiritual battleground for me, so it is a good setting for this painting. Artwork © 2009 Lewinna Solwing

Another watercolor painting. I played around with lots of layers of pigment with this one, so the colors are richer, less 'watery'. The paper also bent and crinkled to no end. If I'm going to do more with this technique I need to use watercolor painting..
It's Misht Soloi. Artwork © 2009 Lewinna Solwing |

Someone showed me a piece of fanart on dA for this book and for some reason I really liked it, so I decided to try my own interpretation with watercolor and ink. While I'm not as fond of the sequels, I really love the first book, especially the wild and free Elizabeth who is hampered by no abstractions in an abstract human world. In contrast I don't like Chloe at all--Chloe and Peter just want to play a human game with books and movies. Elizabeth, on the other hand, strikes me as a creature of Being who is unabashedly what she is, and makes no pretensions or excuses for it. She does not even mind if Peter likes movies... she just ignores them. She won't share that world, but I like hers so much more... This is a little thing I'm putting together as a new reference, for an example of my most recent attempts at capturing Misht's 'look'... how to do it in simple terms instead of my complicated color and pattern mixing and spirals everywhere--not that there aren't still spirals--but this is a simple breakdown, perhaps. Another piece for Jeremy this time for his CD of the same title. The idea was of a man who had lived in the islands but traveled to the city and found that all he really wanted was the peace and joy of his island life. Depicted in the manner of their character through which they have operated in my life... the feminine planets.
On the right is the Moon, ruling the emotional matters of instinct, survival, fundamental identity. The mother/child. Ninth house in Aries.
On the left is Venus, tightly conjunct Saturn, hence her more transpersonal aspects, and doubly so because they are in Scorpio. She thus represents the social/relational and transpersonal connections. Scorpio in Saturn, in the fourth house, ruthless crone who has long since since seen the futility of mere personality expansion and wants to break it down instead, to achieve more of the cosmic power or awareness or destiny... whatever that is... transformation, life, death. So Venus for me is a complex figure, because of all of these influences.
The Moon, though, she is very simple and wild. She seems to have more love; the love of survival and flourishing and expansion. She is thus often at odds with Venus, caught as Venus is in transpersonal destruction and rebirth. But they are both integral parts of the path of my life. So I have drawn and painted them here. I just found this on my hard drive; I began it over a year ago, and while I vaguely remember that it became more finished than it is in this scan, I no longer have that sketchbook, and so this will have to suffice for now. I had drawn it before traveling to Maui, I do not remember how long before. It's Nene Pele, a creature with deep ties to Hawaii, and my friend Kasethen. They have nothing to do with each other... or they didn't then... and now they have only in common the recognition and love of the power place that Hawaii is. This picture speaks to me more strongly than it did when I drew it, now that I myself have lived a year in Hawaii. In any case, I wanted to share it, even in its half-done form. This is a watercolor piece I am working on. It was inspired by this passage I read in a book:
"The ancient Bird-and-Snake Goddess of Water and Air begets a daughter, the pregnant earth, Goddess of Vegetation. The green child."
So, to be honest, I slipped up in not making the human figure here pregnant. It would better have fit the theme perhaps, but nonetheless I like this image a lot... the idea of Misht Soloi as the cosmic bird and snake goddess, creating herself as humanity on the green earth. This is a MUCH older painting, probably about two years old or more. I had never scanned it but have been lugging it around in my suitcase for just that long, hanging it up when I had a wall upon which to do so. I was living in Bellingham and was an avid biker (yes, often in a skirt) at the time that I drew and painted this. It was inspired, a little, by E.T., but was my own personal spin on that sort of magical flight carrying one beyond the possibilities of modern assumptions/perception. Artwork © 2009 Lewinna Solwing

Playing around with logo-type ideas in vector art. This is a rather esoteric-hindu-humanist-ophidian-occult type one... I have a couple of others but they uploaded strangely (the transparency became black), this one needs to be clicked on to really be seen, as it appears black in the thumbnail also.
