My gift for Bad Karma for this year's Secret Santa exchange: A more animalistic portrait of his lynx character Frag Cat.
I'm a little displeased with how the scan turned out; the original pencil sketch looks awesome. Maybe I'll do more with it later on, but I'm going to call this one finished for now. Artwork © 2009 Renee Johnson Additional Credits: Character "Frag Cat" is the property of Bad Karma.

A prototype image of a semi-adopted pirate character I'm playing, first mate Kantos Volta. He's a shrewd businessman with a weakness for lavish parties and salty wenches, and he has some lightning magic abilities. The photo editing job by itself I'm pretty satisfied with, but as far as actual likeness to the character, I stopped being excited about it about halfway through. Not unexcited enough to not finish it, though; but if anyone wants to adopt this image for their own character, I wouldn't be sad about giving it out. I'm told the shadow over his eyes is creepy; unto thee I say: Blame the hat. I did this more to satisfy my own OCD than anything. One basic point of furry anatomy that always sort of bugged me was how the head of a quadrupedal creature could possibly attach to an upright humanoid spine. So I found some pics of skulls, and with some clever photoshopping I stripped away all the fur and musculature so I could find out.
This is my concept of a wolf furry skull. The brain case is identical to a human's, and attaches to the spinal column in much the same way, though rhaps a little farther back from the mandible. To support the extra weight of the larger jawbone and nasal ridge, the spine does not have as much of a curve in the neck/shoulder area as a human spine would, and the vertebrae themselves are much thicker.
I'll probably do other skulls (a cat next, I think), and if I'm feeling really ambitious I may do a whole skeleton one day. I guess I'll start taking requests on these, too.
I'd be extremely flattered if you critique this heavily, if you use it to influence your own anthro art, and if somebody who's better with forensics than I could put some flesh on these bones; I'd love to see what the finished critter would realistically look like. Actually, all I did was color this pic, getting freaky with the Smudge and Burn tools. Sidley's new face as a supervillain. The succubus matron of the brothel he took over - along with basically the rest of the Capital - has brought out his true nature, and he has taken on aspects of an incubus himself. You'll rarely ever see this ugly face on him, though, since incubi also possess the ability to change their shape.
The face I'm intensely happy with, but I think I'd like a little less half-bakedness with the costume change. I may work more on that sometime in the future. I kind of hope whoever this model was comes across my gallery someday so he can see what I've done to his face. ^^; Artwork © 2009 Renee Johnson Additional Credits: Character Sidley Kynlif belongs to me; stock images used in this piece belong to Creasource/Jupiter Images and iStockPhoto.

This is a little avatar I made for myself on the oekaki board. It's an image of Navi form Ocarina of Time overlaid on some sort of Twilight Princess-inspired circuitry patterns. It's meant to exemplify the two Navis that I took my screenname after, in honor of my old laptop, which was super 1337 for its time (Navi from Lain) and also small, blue, sparkly, and somewhat annoying (Navi from Zelda). My humblest apologies to Jupiter Images and iStockPhoto, but I had to erase your watermarks to make this comp make any sense. If a rep from either of these sites sees this image and has a problem with it, I'll gladly take it down; just e-mail me. This is Sid, a truly incorrigible dirty old man and my evil wizard character in a claw-your-way-to-the-top-of-the-thieves'-guild campaign that my friend's running. I stumbled across a picture while I was Googling around and was struck by how much it resembled him, so I snagged it (thanks, Creasource and Jupiter Images) and Photoshopped it up a bit. A few aging effects; a nice change of clothes; and the black sash-worn-as-a-tie that all Shadows members carry, courtesy of iStockPhoto; and whoever that lovely model was becomes an evil blue mage. Go figure. Character Sidley Kynlif belongs to me. Additional Credits: Creasource, Jupiter Images, and iStockPhoto Referenced Source: Dungeons and Dragons

Some pretty wildflowers that my dad likes so much that he gave what was left of his garden over to them years ago. They come back every summer, sprinkling the yard with red and yellow blooms. A lot more friendly and tame than the desert marigolds, because these ones will actually grow in a flower bed if you ask nicely.
A smaller version of this photo won second place in a contest on Occult Corpus. The theme was "Beauty".

These cute little desert marigolds completely take over my back yard in the summer. The seeds sprout wherever they land, but for some reason you can't transplant them or make them grow where you want them to. A truly wild flower.

My character Prince Therrinas of the Singing Tree tribe, so named for their notorious skill as flute-makers. Therrinas, poised to become Chief Hunter of his tribe, carries a flute that his priestly brother enchanted to summon animals when played. He and a deinonychus borrowed from the tribe's herd - they keep them as beasts of burden - are riding out to investigate the cause of some forays of undead into their grasslands. He's already lost two hunters to Skeleton attacks and a third has gone missing - the tribe is in danger, and it's his duty to put an end to it. This one's come a long way from the old sketchy lineart, I feel. ^^ I'm seriously proud of this one. Pencil on copy paper; colored in Photoshop; background is a photograph. This image replaced the one that was up here before, and contains my updated signature seal. It's pretty much the same, though. This is actually an oekaki I did a long time ago, which I spent several months on and am extremely proud of. The thing about this site's oekaki is, once an image reaches somewhere around page 10, it sort of falls into a rift and gets deleted, so the board only contains relatively new images and really old ones. This one's fallen into the rift already, so I figured it'd be best to immortalize it here.
Spock is pwnt, in my humble opinion. Who do you think will win? >^.^< Referenced Source: Star Trek: TOS and Star Trek: TNG

This started out as a generic, smile-for-the-camera picture of my boyfriend in his old dorm room, about 2 years ago. Since he has a habit of acting very kittenish, I thought I'd have a little fun with Photoshop... =^.^= He thinks this picture's scary.

I'm in the middle of Watership Down at the moment, and felt like doing a sketch of the three main characters before I sat down to read. I tried to capture their most important traits: Bigwig's militaristic wariness, the awareness and closeness-with-detachment that comes with Hazel's leadership, and Fiver's ability to tell when it's all okay.

Okay, so there's a big obvious seam where I photoshopped it together because the whole whiteboard wouldn't fit on my scanner. Oh well, you get the idea.
This is very silly, but I thought it was just epic enough to share with the world. ^^; I started taking an archery class right about the same time that my roommate's ex - and a fellow Zeldaholic - wrote a silly note on my board. This is the result: myself with the Fairy Bow. hehe. <3
I'm proud of this pic because it's pretty detailed for a whiteboard doodle, and because I've always had trouble drawing Link in this position and was psyched to finally get it to look good. The board's getting erased now, but I had to at least preserve my masterpiece. ^^;;;
