Frozen Lakes
Frozen Lakes by @BadKarma (Jason Lamey)

TerraGen render.

Was experimenting with a high-altitude viewpoint over the landscape, since the majority of my renders are with the camera at 30m above the ground. This time, I rendered at 750m above the ground.

I discovered that was about the threshold I could do for altitude, because otherwise you could clearly see beyond the landmass model, which destroys the realism. Even 750m is pushing it, as the land seems to just vanish... fortunately, the sky colour at the horizon almost matches the ground colour, and thus masks it a bit.

Still, I'm happy with the results.

Wow. If you'd said it was a photograph, you would've fooled me. The clouds near the sun are a little blocky, though perhaps that might be due to the light, but otherwise this is primo stuff. I love the feeling of height to this picture, and I see no problem whatsoever with the horizon. Lovely work.

Thanks. :) I was experimenting with the 3D clouds feature. Not yet sure I like the results.

Hey!!! this is completely amazing!! as the other guy said, it can be mistaken with a real photo! you've done a great work with the altitude effect, it really makes me feel i'm flying high over the landscape (it reminds me too much when i dream i fly) apart from that, it's so peaceful, i would print it in a huge scale and hang it at home!!! Another thing i liked very much is the sunshine, its so pleasant, looks like morning sunshine (have you ever watched the sunrise?) i'm not sure about the realism in the clouds, but im sure you can improve those, but they don't spoil the whole image

AMAZING job, and really very creative, congrats!!
