Despite contenders wanting a 7-day contract, ABC breezed through the 1980 franchise round. One problem though: "ABC North" still reeked the old Big 4 ITV, but not IBA's desired local touch. This was their solution: Labeling the regions under their studio locations. The North West service, for example, is now "ABC Manchester".
