im curious about something
07 Apr 2024, 11:44 AM

How many people here use side7 as their main platform? I do for sure. I'm interested in making a Sheezy.art account, since the site looks promising, but I'm wondering if there are other artists here who primarily use Side7 to post art. It seems like everyone is on at least 2 sites. If so, let me know in the comments. And if you moved here from another site Im curious to know why. I moved here from Instagram and DeviantArt. I do not use Instagram at all anymore, too algorithm driven. Not art focused enough, and the artist community that is there has a huge bullying problem. This is the same reason why I don't use Twitter because it attracts the same kind of community. And DeviantArt is decaying and dying but that's not new news. So yeah let me know!

@marven4lyf: Friends Don't Let Friends Get Stung. HAV - Albert, Prince Consort

Ironically enough, I logged into dA today and was met with a grievance journal. Wanted to plug S7 but a) they were advertising their own site, so it would probably be seen as a challenge, and b) the comment section is about as civil as the Forums. Llama Emoji-56 (Hiding) (V3)

@Thorvald: Oh damn what was the site they were advertising?

@marven4lyf: https://tales.rosesintheflames.com/ The creators are dracophiles but the pitch doesn't say it's content-specific. It certainly looks slick, but it's currently barebones, and between Eclipse and InkBlot I'm extremely wary of JS-heavy architecture. There's currently no public content policy, but the specification that it's strictly SFW has provoked the usual indignant trolls. :/

@Thorvald: Haha I actually came across this journal last night and thought the same thing about the website. It's does not look very personal or ready to use. The pitch itself, well I hope the kind of people its trying to attract will stay over on that website then.

Side 7 is now my de jure home base: it's not an exact mirror of DeviantArt, but I've posted more (meaningful) exclusive content here than anywhere else. Unfortunately I'm trapped on dA since I've largely failed to get my friends onboard (and one has actually backslid entirely), but the quadruple-down on the AI grift has convinced me to cease uploads, and I'm seriously considering shuttering the active gallery (or doing a Buzzly and replacing it with agitprop).

Sheezy's hostility to "paperdoll" sources disqualifies it as a dedicated alternative, though if the current reboot proves more resilient than the first try I may lay down stakes since I know at least one person that's earmarked it as their fall-back line. In general, though, I prefer to keep my online presence centralized.

@Thorvald: I hope you can convince more friends to join side7. I find it funny almost seeing new accounts on deviantart. I feel bad too, because they were probably like me thinking there were no better options. I do hope they find side7 soon or even buzzly or sheezy. And Buzzly looks alright but I dont think I'll join just cuz yeah its just a pain having to keep up with multiple sites.

@marven4lyf: Hoo boy, do I have thoughts on Buzzly. HAV - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe The whole reason I volunteered for modship here is to effect the institutional integrity that Buzzly's leadership openly defied.

tl;dr until ChStark is off the staff roster, that site will never be trustworthy. Originally I was flabbergasted people without a vested interest in its Red Light District continued to support it... then I started reading up on FurAffinity's operational history, and I guess people are just conditioned to expect terrible management as par for the course.
