SIDE 7 COMIC! (page 5)
SIDE 7 COMIC! (page 5) by @deaddays (John Rios)

Alright, the time for explaination has come: take a seat. Fist off, I'd like to make it clear that I am in NO WAY saying that furries should not be allowed to post on Side 7! I am just commenting on the over abundance of furry art on the site. It's so much that it's gotten comical as you can see if you've at least chuckled once at my comic thus far. :-) Second, I'd like to say that I don't mind furries! Some of my favorite artists on Side 7 are furriers (Samantha Whitten, Lab Rat, Dane W., Klawz, and Jade Comito to name a few). I'm just worried that the artform is becoming bubblegum. You know? If you are a talented furry artist you should be concerned too! It seems that more and more young artists seem to turn to furry when they can't get humanoid just right. It's like an easy out for them, so that they can get oooo's and aaaaw's from people coz it's cute. And it's getting so bad that furry art is starting to go the way of Britany Spears and, I don't care how much you like Britany, it's not good.
So I'm sorry if I've offended any serious artists to dabble in furry art, but I'm just trying to bring the problem to light. :-) Still one more page coming at ya!! Thanks for listening, John Rios P.S. These are just my views and that don't make them true! Agree? Disagree? Let me know! Artwork © Copyright 2002 John Rios

You know, you just might be right... I AM one of those persons who draw furry's, while they are not good at drawing humans... And I just quess that drawing furry's, animals and other creatures is alot more difficult if you have no experience with humans (So actually, I am an idiot ;))!

But after all, I learned drawing humans while I drew my half-human-furry-duck Cindy, but hey, the other way around it would have been alot smarter...

I must commend you John! I am totally with you on this one. Yes, I am a fan of furre and all that, but it is really getting out of control now. You can't go to a single New Art without seeing a few furry images popping up. I was waiting for someone to say something, and I'm very glad it was you. Here here John, here here! ::throws confetti:: Plus I love the innocent 'ZIM' cap there. Nice touch!

I am too one of those, who started to draw "furries" when I could'n draw humans (I was some about 6-7 years old) Then I "got stuck" in furries... Now my dad (Who was artist when he was young) said me that the most easier way to draw human is to do "cartoony" human first-so now I'm practicing humans aaall the time...

But anyhooow, I was too amazed how many peapoles draw furries in here, and... I feel uncomftable... unconft... AARRR... anyhow, I don't like to draw, what others draw I HATE it, even if it's just a international thing like furries, I want to create something brand new (And I HAVE created, but I don't put those drawings here 'cause I don't want to other artists do that too) So I understand you John!!

Athena say: Balance in Everything. Everything in Balance. Whether furry, avant garde, humanoid , or beejzorkian, all things should be balanced.

In other news, nice comic, John. Good expressions! How dost thou work so fast?

I agree. I've experimented with many categories of art in my life, I guess you could call me a furry artist now. There is a crapload of furry art out there, but I haven't noticed it really. I came to the furry scene late I guess. The first character I ever had, in 2nd grade, was furry. Ninja-dog, great name, eh? I also had Apollo back then, but he was more of a beast wars fan character. I think what caused a surge of furry art was the Lion King, when you have a bunch of kids playing simba and having TLK merchandise it's kinda inevitable. The thing that bothers me about the Furry fandom is the art wars, they're brutal. Everybody accuses everybody of ripping eachother off because there is very little room for originality. Ya Know what fandting to takeover also, J.Vasquez, especially zim. WOW I've taken a buttload of space up haven't I? Well the comic's great and I wish I could refer you to my gallery but I lack a scanner.

Ergh, I'm sorry. my computer cut up what I was trying to say about Zim. I was trying to say How JV fanart (especially zim)is starting to also takeover.

Yes, Zim. What’s Zim and why does everyone draw it? Because it is simple and easy to draw? I feel so out of the loop.

Your style is great. And your expressions are incredible! I can relate to your inking style. Wow wow.

A furry in an Invader Zim hat. That explains EXACTLY what I've been trying to put my finger on for about a year now at Side7, odd as that sounds. XD I LOVE YA, JOHN!!

I dissagree, alot of people I know draw furries because they don't like drawing humans, not because they can't. I'm one of those people. I've drawn humans that look decent, but in my opinion people are boring to draw WE DON'T EVEN HAVE TAILS! Humans should at lead=st have a tails.

But nice pic anyway :3

(wow.... you've sure evoked a lot of responses with this thing!) i gotta say, i agree... a furry artist myself, i totally feel that people should be able to branch out. furries are perfectly alright! (resisting use of "puurrrfect" pun...oy..) But you bring up a good point, John. We all should at least be able to try and do 'normal' people as well. And if any one has trouble with drawing people, we're supposed to be a community here, right? let's help eachother! so herehere! funny stuff, dude...

Oh.... hey, I'm late with the comments. Kinda. First of all, your art is really awesome - it's got a style of its own, and it's extremely neat.

Secondly, about the furry issue. I'm no furrier at all (excuse the pun), so I have this feeling I'm not really 'qualified' to pass proper judgement on this trend, but I HAVE noticed the tidal wave. Some are good, but holds up shield for rotten tomatoes many more fall short of a certain mark. Which leads me to BELIEVE (although I'm not sure if it's the truth) your statement about people drawing furries because they can't draw humans properly. And I was just wondering why on earth people would be so attracted to seeing modernised egyptian gods. Mreh.... gets pelted all the same

Right, so here's my last point: SOME of those who say drawing humans is boring MAY have said that because they can't get it right - I know a substantial number of people who give up on or criticise something because they don't succeed....

You see, my point is that if you can get something right, you wouldn't find it boring. This is my opinion ONLY, so maybe you guys should calm down......there's no need to pick up the watermelon...
