I took a black ink drawing and then just played with it in Paint Shop really... just to see what happened...

"She lets the bird go now, And it perches between her knees. Too heavy to fly, Too tired to try. The bird watches her, Lay down her head. Watches her curl up, Like a baby for the womb. She must be tired now, So the bird lets her sleep."

I'm curious- are your drawings done completely from scratch or modification of photographs?

This is really nice.. I love the light and dark here. I don't know if you intended it that way, but it creates a peaceful effect, IMHO.

Thanks for commenting on my image... I was going for the peaceful/quiet/still kind of feel with this one... hence the cool blue and soft shades...

In answer to you question: I ususally work from scratch, using a pencil doodle and then blocking out areas of colour (usually in black) I sometimes use photos of people as a reference source material, I always like to use photos that I have taken myself (otherwise you simply can't control the structure of the peice) Any picture I used a photo on I probably have about 20-40 photos of that person, in various poses until I'm happy with it... (I'm a bit trigger happy with the digital camera *Grins)

occasionally I just start doodling in ink and don't bother with any prep at all... these ones you can probably tell because the detail is low and the proportions not 100% right because you can't edit with ink...

indeed you are a big fan a black areas. Why are your ink drawings so good? This is great! The solid colors and the stylish inks work so well. I love the color blue. such a wonderful color.
