I think it may be the expression, and semistylized eyes that give it a slightly toony look. I don't care, though, for I really really like it. The fur's just... excellently done, y'know?

Ooohhh! Preettyy...i agree with the fur on the comment above. I think the cartoonish style comes from, besides the eyes, the shape of the head. More specifically where that right cheek is pulled out. It may also be the snout itself i think.
