25 years - Skunk Siblings
25 years - Skunk Siblings by @ajfox (Adam Girtz)

I was able to fix the scan, but it took some doing and more time than I thought. How other pictures with this level of dark color turned out and not this one (at the same scanner settings) is a mystery to me. The originally planned #3 in the series, gets the #4 slot.

1999: After some time and work, I was establishing a familiar routine to help me branch out into other things to try. Working my way around to all the animals I wanted to see in anthropomorphic form. A new issue was cropping up, however; Establishing my own unique style. So many different ways of doing things like hair, eyes, fur, markings, etc. Real life animal references were also being used, but wasn't too keen on the realistic style and I also didn't want an overly cartoon-ish look either. Finding that happy medium, that sweet spot, was a struggle. As I went, however, I became aware of something else; I was starting to think outside the box when it came to drawing poses, angles, expressions, etc. Something else that would take time, like the artwork itself.

2024: I can actually remember doing this one back in the day. I assume the subjects were watching something on a TV out of frame. It's likely I did this as a try at Skunks because I don't remember drawing any before this. (Nor can I find any pre-dated art featuring them) Still keeping things simple, using what I had to work with at the time. The subjects this time are the skunk siblings. Angel and her brother...........derp.....skunk...at a bar. Let it not be said uploading these doesn't come with a degree of cringe. (Most artists don't like their old work for reasons such as this. Man...those eyes..) I don't recall naming him back in the day, so I'm calling him Tod. I spared him the derpy fixation gaze in the remake to create more of an 'engaged in conversation' kind of expression. I am unsure why Angel is hiding behind his tail, perhaps it's almost closing time and they find themselves in the midst of a "Minnesota goodbye". (Likely the "We should probably think about heading out" phase)
