Space Nazi field marshal in charge of the Eastern Front in DYOS X.ii. Schäffer was created to give the Eastern Union a plausible threat versus the cartoon villains seen elsewhere, and a tragic character for an enemy faction: he demonstrates competent and pragmatic leadership amid an ideologically-charged and/or pig-headed general staff, yet openly opposes much of his own régime, tagging on largely to prevent someone worse from taking the helm. Schäffer is a veteran of the "War of '97" in @GenMarshall's backstory to the Republic of Coruscant; while not a war criminal, he objected to the puppet state created after the Nazis' defeat and fled Earth following the failed insurgency.

Trivia:
  • As with the other "OG" Space Nazis that fled Earth, Schäffer is actually an American expat LARPing as a German.
  • Schäffer was a spur-of-the-moment creation, but later connected to Rudolph Krieger in preparation for a plotline intended to detail the Forced Evolutionary Virus' origin within the DYOSverse. Intended as a "filler" arc, this story was tacitly dropped after lord_joakim shifted his plot to DYOS XI.
  • He is taillesskangaru's favourite character in Part II.
Relationships/Ties:

Manfred Hickten
De jure supreme commander. While Hickten apparently hand-picked him for command, Schäffer considers his leadership dubious at best and actively detrimental at worst. Despite his divergence from (if not open defiance of) the party line, Hickten's personal confidence acts as a shield against retribution from his professional enemies.

Ernust Ekkehard
Subordinate officer and implied aide-de-camp. Schäffer detests him, but keeps him on a close leash, presumably to mitigate the damage. He appears to intentionally permit the Innsbruck Offensive to permanently discredit Ekkehard as a field commander.

Rudolph Krieger
First encountered during the original Nazi War in 1997; Schäffer appears to harbour great fondness for Krieger, treating him as a confidant and leaking classified information, going so far as to provide an alibi for the jailbreak.
