Adios, Duke Devlin
Adios, Duke Devlin by @Lucky_Ladybug66 (Daisy Hunt)

Possibly from Dragons at Dawn. After losing a duel to a servant of the Neo-Orichalcos, Joey becomes a mind-controlled and unwilling servant of it himself. Somewhere along the way, Duke is unfortunate enough to encounter him, and with the Neo-Orichalcos not only controlling Joey, but twisting some of his darkest feelings (including his dislike for Duke), he challenges Duke to a duel. Duke is able to hold his own longer than Joey expects, but in the end Joey uses Duke's trademark card, Orgoth the Relentless, against him and wins. Here, he smirks cruelly as he checks for a pulse. The Neo-Orichalcos can do one of four things to its victims; Duke has either lost his soul or been killed outright (though he could still be revived in the case of the latter, as it's an enchanted death that can be broken).

Duke's hair is flowing free; I'm thinking the final attack caused the ponytail to come undone.

This was one of the most complicated pictures I've done. I had a terrible time with Duke's pose at first; I had my Kadaj figure pose for me and after some more failures, finally figured it out. I think the most chilling elements are his eyes, the scattered cards, and Joey in general. o.o

I know Joey's right arm looks too short. XD; It was not cooperating. already moved him up once and had him pretty much at the top of the paper. And I draw Duke's pendant thing usually as a cross/star because I never can figure out how to do the rest.

Oh wow. I think this is my favorite of the pics! X3 I love all the details, and the poses look great, especially Duke's! Joey looks awesome, too, and his arm doesn't look that bad. ^^ It could be argued that it's just the angle it's at that makes it look short.

I really like the expressions here too. They're perfect! and shudders @ Joey's expression.

Definitely a chilling picture. o.o

Thanks! It's definitely my favorite too. Hence why I uploaded it last, so it would be at the top. X3 Complicated pictures can be a headache, but when they come out good, it's so worth it!

nods. I was thinking of the angle explanation too. XD

I loved doing the expressions so much.

Totally. o.o imagines it will look even creepier in color.

I have to agree with above about it being my favorite of the ones you uploaded. All the little details--the scattered cards, the loosened hair, the empty eyes--really make the picture. When you described it on LJ I pictured something different, but I like this better. XD

I've found it's a lot easier to just change the angle of the arm than to try and lengthen it in that kind of situation...like, say, if you moved Jounouchi's elbow back a little further, and redrew the lines of his arms to connect to the new elbow-position, you could make his arm appear longer without having to redraw his hand or shoulder, or move him up any further. Also, if you ever decide you want more space at the top, you can just copy/paste the picture onto a slightly-larger Pain canvas, and slide it down until you have the amount of space you want at the top. I'm going to have to do that with one of the pictures I'm working on now, because I started much too close to the bottom of the page. XD;

I was staring at a lot of screencaps trying to figure out what the pendant was when I was making dolls, and I think it's a skull with wings on a cross. You'd probably need a really big picture to get all the detail into it. XD

I'm impressed with the hands on this one...and folds, you drew folds! But they might look a little more foldy and a little less ruffly if every fold wasn't a uniform size...even so, it makes his clothing look a lot more three-dimensional. And as always, I love the expressions, especially Jounouchi's.

..."enchanted death that can be broken" reminds me of the original version of Snow White. The queen kept poisoning her with things, but every time the poisoned item was removed she'd wake up again...there was no "true love's kiss" in the original. The prince was running off with her body and one of his servants tripped and droped the casket, knocking the apple-bit out of her throat. It's much less romantic when Disney's not involved. X3

nods. I've done the different angle thing before, but I don't remember whether I tried it on this picture. XD; I should see if I can make it work.

Sometimes I cut off pieces of paper to tape to whatever side I need more space on. LOL.

I thought it was something like a clown face/mask with the ruffly collar, but that could be entirely wrong. XD

I love the hands. X3 Yeah, I was feeling frustrated at the folds for that uniform reason. needs to work more with them.

LOL. Yeah, the original version of Snow White is so crazy/creepy. XD And the Prince is totally a necrophiliac.

Thanks!

Oooooooh. That'd be like his father's head on a necklace, almost. That's so creepy...I think I like that better. XD And looking at some of the screencaps I'm finding, I'm not even sure it's a cross and not a sword, now. o_x; So...a winged skull on a cross, or a ruffly clown on a sword. I don't suppose they ever did a close-up of it in the series?

I think there's a TV Tropes page about necro-princes...or maybe they just come up a lot on the "Dude She's Like In a Coma" page. XD

I wonder if clowns are an important symbol to them both, since the father chooses to wear a clown mask, there's a clown on the store and clowns all over on the inside, and then Duke's pendant.... If so, I wonder if it's the idea of being able to hide behind the mask, since clowns are usually happy and the people playing them might not be.

LOL. Wow. I had no idea they were common. XD
