Thirst for Adventure
Thirst for Adventure by @Thorvald (El Thorvaldo)

My very first overture to the DRAW Your Own Story tradition (specifically, Volume VI).

What can I say? Fresh blood, little-to-no experience in public "art", and although I had joined CivFanatics in November '05 it was only during the following Spring-Summer that I'd started to really participate on the forums. Thus I served up the traditional childishly-ambitious, self-deprecating rapid-fire humour and snarky comments for which DYOS at that time was known.

The inglorious fall of DYOS 5 was still fresh on my mind; specifically, the shift in tone around Page 20 that pretty much determined the course of the rest of that story. When I joined, I thought: "This can still be saved." The contributors had done a fairly decent job of staying on track with the main quest; I made it my mission to make sure it wasn't completely forgotten (which as later comics demonstrated was wishful thinking).

This comic set the format standard for my later submissions: 863px width and 11-px black frame around the whole thing. I had absolutely no plan when I did it; I was just tinkering about, reused it in the next comic for consistency, and it's been the default for virtually all (non-sketched) pages ever since.

@Camazotz: When you inadvertently found a neo-Soviet empire, become lancer to Jedi Chuck Norris, and drag the universe into a personal grudge because you're too proud to make a grocery run:
