Thinning out the gallery
11 Jun 2023, 04:51 PM

Going to go through my gallery of music and anything that has not been listened to much or has low number shall be removed from the site. * *Keeping only the tracks that have done well. Sorry if any of the ones to be removed were faved but this ensures only the best work remains behind.

tfw I deliberately held off on faving on the expectation this site would implement a 'by-date-fav'd' sorting function à la DeviantArt I could leverage to curate a prospective Public Favourites gallery

As someone with a background in archiving and already saw two people nuke their galleries on reflexive whim, I strongly advise against this. After all, if Bad Karma opted to pull the plug when activity tanked in the 2010s, we wouldn't be here having this discussion. D:

@Thorvald:* I have done this on other sites as well I don't intend to nuke my entire collection but only ones that have not done very well and so far on multiple sites the tracks I removed failed to gain any traction. Have no fear I do not intend to take anything of importance away or give up the ghost. *

It feels rather sad to remove tracks that don't attract as much attention. I can understand you wanting to remove them, but, at the same time, I'm also of the mindset that they should be left and sorted into a folder of similar tracks into a sort of album. I have always gone back to old albums and found that tracks that I skipped because I preferred the album for the more popular tracks actually caught my attention; sometimes I've even come to enjoy them more than the popular tracks.

@fragmented_imagination: Because I upload music it also takes up storage space which I feel is better suited to tracks that maintain some kind of attention record. Its not the same as digital artwork which takes up less memory then music does. If the 3 tracks I took down got comments or faves they would still be up but view counts point to low numbers indicating those tracks failed to gain traction. I have so many other tracks up that even if I removed any tracks for my own reason as owner and creator of the music, there is more then enough music already up on Side 7 with more planned to be uploaded. I don't see the issue at all.

@fragmented_imagination: But to not sound like some kinda ill mannered ogre I totally get where your coming from and that is an idea I may look into further down the road. As a music composer who is proud of his works I am an absolute perfectionist who likes only giving his best work when he can where he can.

@XxTheCreativeKitsunexX: I suppose I hadn't considered the issue of storage space. I respect your decision, of course, and I look forward to listening to more of your work.
